We were thrilled to join Ampeco’s 2025 UK CPO Playbook webinar, alongside a brilliant line-up of voices from Zapmap, Charge UK, Roland Berger, Energy Park and more. A huge thank you to the Ampeco team - not only for hosting such an insightful session, but also for being a vital partner in our mission to bring EV charging to communities across the UK that are often left behind.
This conversation couldn’t have come at a better time. From new regulatory standards and uptime targets to grid connection delays and sustainable growth, it’s clear that 2025 will be a defining year for our industry.
Here’s what stood out - and how Zapgo is putting these insights into action.
Throughout the webinar, several speakers shared perspectives that strongly echoed our own - from the future of charging access and user experience, to the importance of building resilient infrastructure for the long haul.
Here are a few standout points we’re especially aligned with:
Zapmap’s Melanie Shufflebotham highlighted the rise of ultra-rapid hubs and the growing need for roaming and contactless payment. We share this commitment to making EV charging more visible, accessible and consistent. Visit Zapmap
Toby Crane-Buck from Energy Park made a compelling case for long-term infrastructure investment and solutions that serve residential communities. His call for future-proof solutions reflects the very approach we’re taking as we grow our network. Learn about Energy Park
Charge UK’s Jarrod Birch offered valuable clarity on the evolving reliability and transparency requirements. Like Jarrod, we believe clear frameworks and consistent service are key to earning driver trust. Explore Charge UK
Our Chief Operating Officer, Ross Mabon, joined the discussion to share how Zapgo is addressing the challenges of deploying EV infrastructure in harder-to-reach areas – locations with limited grid access, smaller populations or environmental constraints.
“Scaling in these areas means rethinking the model. What works in cities doesn’t always work in the countryside,” Ross explained. “We rely on local, agile teams who understand their regions and can make smart decisions on the ground.”
A key part of our strategy is removing friction for the user. That’s why our partnership with Ampeco is so crucial. From the back-end to the user interface, we are focused on keeping the experience simple and intuitive.
“As we move into mass adoption, we will meet more drivers who are brand new to EVs,” Ross said. “Our chargers need to be as obvious and easy to use as a petrol pump.”
He also shared how predictive maintenance - powered by machine learning - helps us anticipate issues before they cause downtime, ensuring the network stays reliable across all regions.
And when it comes to grid connections, Ross called for a smarter approach to managing upfront costs.
“We need to build sites that are future-ready but start with the right-size connection. If we could defer standing charges in early years, we’d unlock far more deployment in the places that need it most.”
This approach - balancing flexibility, simplicity, and long-term planning - is core to how Zapgo operates. It’s how we deliver a reliable network at scale, and how we ensure our infrastructure works not just for today’s drivers, but for the years of EV growth ahead.
At Zapgo, we’re proud to be part of this evolving industry - and even prouder to be working with forward-thinking partners like Ampeco to drive change where it’s needed most.
