About the site
Located just off Park View at Cartmel Racecourse, the new site features three rapid chargers serving six charging bays, enabling up to six vehicles to charge simultaneously. Drivers can pay quickly and easily using all major contactless debit and credit cards, delivering the simple, reliable charging experience that Zapgo is known for.
Designed with accessibility in mind, the site includes spacious bays with turning circles for wheelchair users alongside chargers equipped with contactless card readers, helping make charging straightforward for every driver.
As a destination charging location, drivers don’t need to wait around at a forecourt while they charge but, instead, they can spend their charging time exploring the surrounding area, with the historic village of Cartmel and the historic 12th Century Cartmel Priory both only a brief five-minute walk away.
Designed for visitors to Cumbria
Cartmel attracts visitors throughout the year and Zapgo’s new charging site provides a convenient base for exploring some of Cumbria’s most popular attractions, including Holker Hall & Gardens, the southern shores of Lake Windermere, Morecambe Bay and the spectacular Lake District National Park.
By bringing rapid charging to one of the region’s most popular destinations, Zapgo is enabling local residents, businesses and visitors to travel with greater confidence while supporting the continued growth of electric vehicle adoption across rural Cumbria.
Supporting local communities
Reliable charging infrastructure plays an increasingly important role in supporting local communities, particularly in destinations that welcome large numbers of visitors throughout the year and drivers increasingly expect to be able to charge up while they explore.
Demand for public charging continues to grow across Cumbria, and our site provides crucial access to rapid and reliable charging for local residents while also supporting the many visitors travelling into the area by electric vehicle.
The site will be open on all days of the year except race/certain event days at Cartmel Racecourse due to wider access restrictions.
Neil Mahapatra, CEO of Zapgo, said:
“We’re thrilled to bring rapid charging to Cartmel – a prime location for EV drivers that will empower local residents and communities in Cumbria to make the move to EVs, boosting confidence for drivers visiting the area and supporting the local economy.”
Geraldine McKay, Director of Racing at Cartmel Racecourse, said:
“Zapgo’s rapid charging site will support the local community, better connect Cartmel to the rest of Cumbria and the country beyond, and ensure that Cartmel and its communities are now wired up and well equipped to benefit from the UK’s EV transition. We look forward to welcoming EV drivers wanting to enjoy Cartmel’s award-winning restaurants and local attractions.”
The Reverend Nick Devenish, member of The Guild of Cartmel Traders, said:
“Cartmel has been attracting visitors and pilgrims for over 800 years. Those who could afford to, used to come on horseback. Today we are still attracting visitors to our restaurants, the racecourse and the Priory – and we need to serve their needs.”
